LG OLED tv repairs

We are now starting to see OLED televisions turning up in our repair workshop.

While we can not repair faulty OLED panels, we have seen a number of LG OLED tvs with dead or faulty psu boards - we now have stock of the likely components that have blown. If your LG OLED tv is either completely dead (no standby light) or has a flashing standby light then it may be possible to repair.

I had two of these fantastic looking Samsung UE49KS7000U led tvs come into the workshop this week. Both with the same fault - dead/no power and although the faulty components in question were slightly different they were both repairable at a reasonable cost (Estimate £75-80).

We are receiving a number of tvs in the workshop which have had power issues - usually coming in dead/no power. This can be caused by blown components on the psu board, and can usually be repaired at a reason cost. Alternatively we can usually source the correct board within a few days if required.

Samsung tvs with purple/bluey picture or has white spots on screen

There have been a number of Samsung tvs coming into the workshop with either a purple/bluey picture issue or have white spots.

Purple/bluey picture:
This fault is caused by a chemical change in the leds, which leads to a change in the colour they emit. We now have stock of compatible alternative to the most common Samsung strips, and can replace the whole led array to cure this fault. These strips are of better quality than the originals and should not have the same issue in the future!

We're now starting to see a few Samsung UE46F5000AKXXU led tvs coming into our workshop that no longer start up although they have a flashing red standby light showing there is still power present. Some of these initially had start up problems but would eventually work, but after extended use, then failed to come on at all.

Mini DV to DVD transfer service

We can now transfer Mini DV to DVD and PC (Mp4 video format) in addition to our VHS to DVD/PC service.

We can copy up to 4 hours of footage onto DVD but in order to retain as much quality as possible we recommend no more than 2 hours per DVD.

We charge £19.95 per DVD (first DVD charged up front) and can create duplicates at a reduced price.

Transfer to Mp4 (supplied on a memory stick) will now be charged £24.95 for footage upto 2 hours, and £12 on top for every additional hour.

These 40" LCD tvs tend to get issues after 3 years due to some sub-stand components. However, they give a very good HD picture pound for pound and have plenty of connection ports.

Panasonic DMREZ47VEBK vhs recording issues - picture tearing

One is where the recording in VHS mode gives picture tearing issues, even though a normal VHS retail tape will play ok. Evotel LCD40USBFHD picture too bright/colour bleed issues/solarised

Not a well known make, but we have found that the Evotel LCD40USBFHD uses the same screens that you will find in a lot of Samsung TVs. These sometimes get a fault where the picture is too bright or the colour runs or shows the wrong colours in faces etc. The picture may become solarised or negative, and all these faults may be present on switch on or occur after the tv has warmed up after a few minutes.

This is usually due to components overheating, and not necessarily a faulty screen.

Philips 50PFP5532D05 Plasma TV - Clicking noise, red flashing standby

We can now provide iPad digitizer screen repairs/replacement in our shop in Bath. Depending on the version of your iPad, the cost will be around £70-£80+Vat.

We can source replacement parts such as the headphone socket, wifi and bezel should these need replacing the same time. The internal lcd screen can also be replaced if required, however these tend to be more costly due to the screen price. Prices will be quoted before repair is carried out.

LG 42PQ3000ZA Plasma TV - turns on and off, clicking noise/dead

Although Plasma TVs are not my favourite thing in the world, I have to admit that LG, Panasonic and Samsung have made some rather nice ones. Some are more repairable than others though, and LG's 42PQ3000ZA can usually be repaired for a reasonable fee compared to most - If your 42PQ3000ZA has been struggling to turn on, clicks on and off with a red to green back to red standby light then it can usually be repaired (ideally the sooner you bring it in the better).

Sony RDR-HX890 stuck on Guide Plus after update

There has been an issue with the Sony RDR-HX890 HDD/DVD Freeview recorders since Sony did a recent firmware update. It can affect the machine by forcing it to use Guide Plus for recording - unfortunately this feature is no longer supported and the Digital Guide needs to be unlocked.

This is something we can fix, and once done, you will be able to record tv again!

Samsung LE26R74BDXXEU TV loses Freeview tuning

Some of the Samsung LE26R74BDXXEU TV lose Freeview tuning making it impossible to get Freeview without a separate box. Scart and other ports appear to remain ok. We have now narrowed down the issue to basic component failure making it far cheaper to repair than replacing boards left, right and centre.

Top Up TV PVR guides not working

Recently a lot of Top Up PVR recorders have lost their guide making it impossible to make any timer recordings.

Normally older freeview recorders struggle with the latest signal but these can be put right. Repair will cost between £30-£40+Vat (not including Call Out).

Philips LCD TV Switching itself off

Rushing noise/noisy audio at low level from Toshiba AV554 & AV555 models fix now available

Some Toshiba LCD TVs have been affected by a glitch that results in a rushing noise/noisy audio at low levels. May also be described as a low roaring/airy sound, which happens on all sources but most noticeable when using scart or hdmi ports. We have found this issue recently with a 37AV554D model but it is known to affect others of a similar build.

We now have the technology to repair this defect and is a worthwhile and permanent fix.

Toshiba 32AV615D and 32AV635D Picture issues - Multicoloured lines on screen

Yet more screen faults, we've now found that the basic but good old reliable Toshiba TVs are now also suffering from picture faults, mainly due to the screen which wasn't made by them!

Samsung 32/37/40" LCD TVs - Image imprinting issues/Text ghosting

We are now able to offer repairs to Samsung LCD TVs (and some other makes) that have Image Retention issues. This fault can include smearing, text remaining on screen after its gone, images remaining on screen from previous channels (ghosting effect). The screen may also be reddish and darker than normal. Toshiba Freeview Issues - No Picture or Sound

There is a known fault with the Toshiba 32C3030D / 32C3030DB series where the Inbuilt Freeview can suddenly stop working. It will lose both sound and picture and if you press menu then the menu screen only briefly appears. You may find that external sources (e.g. DVD player) will work perfectly fine.

We now have a permanent fix for this and can have it repaired on the day it is brought into the shop. The charge of the repair should be under £50, and in my view, a worth-while fix as the Toshib...

Within the last couple of months we have seen an increase in the Samsung A55 model versions coming in for repair. This includes the LE40A557P2FXXU and LE40A559P4FXXU.
